Module-9 | Indian Retail Scenario

Objectives

After working on this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain how shopping in India has changed in the last 10 year;
  • Identify ladies(known to you) above 60 years of age and find out how they did shopping in their younger days;
  • Identify ladies below 30 years of age ask them the same questions;
  • Analyze and compare how shopping habits and behavior have changed over the years; and
  • Explain how technology, competition and supply chain management have affected the retailers.
  • Assignment 1

    Write a short note on how shopping in India has changed in the last 5-10 years. You may speak to any two ladies (whom you know) above 60 years of age and ask them to describe how they used to go for shopping for clothes/ grocery/ electonics appliances/ jewalry, etc. years age, when they were young. Then speak to another2 young ladies below 30 years of age and ask them same questions. Compare and analyse how shopping habits and behavior in India has changed.

    Shopping culture of past 5-10years(Write briefly): There comes very big change in the shopping culture earlier there are less no. of the retailers is present in the market of E-shopping. Im the market the retailerdo their own rules and regulations because on that time the competitiors in the market is very less. So retailers feel like a king in the market. Earlier the market is retailer based. The retailer are less so you have to take the goods from them. You don't have many choice in retailing, So you have less choice in goods and as well as less number choice in the retaicer. On that time you can't make your choice to buy any goods. IF you want any specific good so you have to request the retailer to please give that item that i want to buy. In that time there are lots of new stores/ shops are available where we buy any type of product. If we don't like any retuiter shop by any reason we have lots of choice to go to another shop and take such items. Today's there is lots of competition behveen the retaiens there is more designed this more items available in the shops and also another shoped.

    On that time the price of any good is very high according to the retailers choice sat in todays days we told teh retailer for harganning we easily got our product in less amount.

    And on that time the shops is so for to our house we go very long KMs for purchasing any items. In today shopping culture there is lots of brands publishing all our the India as well world. We easily got our favourite goods in budget amount

    There is lots of advantage in today shopping culture like:-
    1. Large no. of Retailers:-

    The quantity of retailers increases day by day every one want one shop for selling his/her goods/services.

    2. Facilites of E-Commerce:-

    There are lots of brands who offers the customers to visit their website and get products easily at home with all the benefits like discount exchange etc.

    3. Home Devlivery:-

    There concept of home delivery attrack the customers because we know that in todays's time all the persons are very busy so they can't have time to go to a mall or a store for buying any product. Through home delivery they easily got there best products.

    4. Discount Facilites:-

    In Today's time they also provide discounts for customers if the purchasing there products. Through discount customers feel satisfaction and they not bargoining more to the staff members.

    5. Also Provide Precautions/ Informations:-

    If any customer buy any product and they don't know how to use such productsthan a retailer will understand him/her to give knowledge and hold them how to use such products.

  • But there are some disadvantages in today's cultural shopping such as:-
  • 1. Sometimes defected products will come:-

    We know that there are lots of shops in our near but areas but when we do online shopping than sometimes we fot another product it means a customer buy a addidas shoes from any online website( E-Commerce) and they got addidas shoes in the same amount.

    2. Ignores Customers Complaints:-

    The call center many times ignores customers complaints they told us that they can't hear our voice after that they cut the call and when we call another time they does not responding and does not take our calls.


    Assignment 2:

    Speak to a store manager and understand their responses for the following:

    • 1) What are the factors fuelling change in Indian retailing today?
    • 2) How has the Consumer changed overr the last few year?
    • 3) How has technology helped retailers?
    • 4) How has competition amongest retailers affected teh retail chains and the customer?
    • 5) How have the improvements in the supply chain/ vendors affected retailers?

    Having understand responses, you are required to write teh summary of your discussion alongwith the finding of the interview in a short note:

    1) Factors fuelling change in Indian retailing(Write briefly your note under a and b):

    a) Summary:

    → After new Economy policy the lots of retailer. invited by Goverment under this poliy. This increases the competition in the marke. The domestic company interprets and such companies also dealing in the markets. And then E-shopping websites give fuelling changes in Indian Retailing because peoples got there products at home, it increases there time.

    b) Findings:

    → Here. we find that there are more competition takes place in the market as well modern techniques also helps the customer for shopping. Through online shopping the customers time increases and the retaiters also work is online sites. So, that we see a heathy competitions in the markets.

    2) How has customer changed over last few years(write briefly under a and y):......................

    a) Summary:

    → Before 10 years there is less amount of retailers in India but in few years we easily so that in our near by areas there is lots of retailers who is working there work properly. So, we easily find our product and we easily find our product and we easily check the behavior ofr the retailer if any retailer attitude is worng then except his/her shop we easily go another shop that is present in our near by area. If means we have more options to buy a single porduct and we easily got the product.

    b) Findings:

    → Here, we find the increases in the number of retailers and such number of retailers and such increasement is beneficial for us. We easily fot any type of good and services and if such good is no hten we have more options of buy such good from another shop either to buy such good alternative goods means we have more options to buy a single porduct in any shop nearby our home/ either in malls.

    3) How has technology helped retailers(Write briefly under a and b):.........................

    a) Summary:

    → In today's life we easily see that every person time is very every person time is very important. Son technology plays very important role for retailers as well customers. There are lost of websites(E-Commerce) in which a retailer publish there products and sales through online. If helps to increases retailers earning capacity. They earn online as well offline. And the works of retailers is also be very easy because they only write customers address and then they give home delivery.

    b) Findings:

    → Here, we finds that the work of an retainter or customer become more easy. Customer buy any product at home and they easily got such product through home delivery. Evenn the billing, exchange the product replacements, discounts all are available through online as well customers home. Peoples finds the best way fo shopping through online.

    4) How has competition affected retailers & customer(Write briefly under a and b):......................

    a) Summary:

    → Competition make big change in the retail industry. The competitions take healthy environment int he market because of the competitors customers get more options in the markets. We easily got my products more than 5 shops in our near by areas and all the shops are too good in there infrastructure as well retailing point of view. They affect retailers does not work good peoples comes and goes to another shops.

    b) Findings:

    → Here, we finds that the competitons in the market in increases day by day. Every day a new retailers comes to fight in market and customers also more options in the market they easily go to another shops without taking permission to anyone. If they like such product then they buy otherwise they have more shops either more option in the market where they buy the products.

    5) How have the improvements in the supply chain affected retailers(Write briefly under a and b):..............

    a) Summary:

    → Supply is the main part of all the business. retail shops. If you have good supply chain than your business never get down. Providing goods at right time in the store help us to provides goods at the right time to the customers than they always buy any product to your shops as well they always helps you to grow your business. That's why I told that supply chain is very important in retailer.

    b) Findings:

    → Here, we find that a good retail shop is that shop who give their goods at the right time to the customers. Customers always wants a tendy products so its own duty to buy a bundle of such products and is my customer come to buy such product so we easily give them this helps us to create more customer. The first customer told his friends and family members about such product. so that, they also come to buy such products.

    Q-4 How has the supply chain affected any retailers business?

    Ans- If there is no good supply chain than the retailer does not got trendy items and if any customer come to buy such product(trendy) then the retailers have no such product and it decreases his sales. as well affected his/her business growth.
